Two acrobats, a human-sized hamster wheel weighing no less than 350 kilos (!), and the eternal question: why do we keep running? In ‘The Idle Hour’, two acrobats challenge each other. One is driven by inner restlessness and ambition, while the other seeks stillness and radiates calm. A playful, wordless performance at the intersection of circus and dance.

Through a powerful blend of acrobatics, dance, and sound, ‘The Idle Hour’ raises questions about the rat race we live in, the value of silence, and finding meaning in a world that never pauses.

What makes ‘The Idle Hour’ special is that the performance never becomes gloomy. The hamster wheel may symbolize modern stress, but the two performers play with it, provoke each other, and find humour in repeating. You recognize your own rat race, but you also smile along the way.

This performance will have its Dutch premier on Thursday the 6th of August.

About the artist

Motus Murmuri means ‘the murmuring of movement’. The young company, led by artistic director Samuel Rhyner, works at the intersection of circus, dance, and music. Their performances are almost always wordless, allowing them to transcend language, age, and national borders. They balance between the abstract and the absurd, offering their audience a moment of calm in a busy world. ‘The Idle Hour’ is their first creation under the name Motus Murmuri.
