Socks;SportsSocks

You are young and want to make a difference, but the world does not pay attention to it. Sometimes it feels easier to escape than to stay and face things. And somewhere, you know it is not all about you, even if it does not always feel that way. Socks;SportsSocks writes songs about exactly that: the small struggles of everyday life, delivered with a guitar and a wink.

Rotterdam’s Socks;SportsSocks does not make polished stadium rock. Instead, they create music that sounds as it was made in a bedroom, and that is entirely the point. Rough when it needs to be, gentle when it can be. Drawing from indie rock, dreamy ambient soundscapes, and a touch of post-punk, they craft songs that both soothe and unsettle.
Their lyrics explore the things you might rather leave unsaid. The cynicism you try to overcome but occasionally fall back into. Escapism and the desire to switch off for a while. The realization that the world is bigger than your own thoughts, and the challenge of coming to terms with that.
The title of their debut album, ‘Ironic Songs for a Sincere Generation’, says it all: yes, there is irony. But beneath it lies something genuine. Expect songs you can dance to, alongside songs that make you stop and reflect for a moment.
The band’s sound evokes the slacker indie rock of 1990s bands such as Pavement, while also drawing on the laid-back, sun-soaked feel of Mac DeMarco. They have performed at festivals including Grasnapolsky, Motel Mozaïque, and Misty Fields. Last year, they released their debut album, ‘Ironic Songs for a Sincere Generation’.
