For the Mexica, the Indigenous people of Mexico, the world was not a flat map marked by points on a compass. It was a living system of forces, energies, and cycles. In ‘Rumbo’, dancer Lorena Valenzuela and musician Dizzi Geetha use this ancient worldview as a mirror for something deeply personal: the inner struggle we wage with ourselves. Through traditional Mexican dance, live percussion, and the raw energy of the underground club scene, they go into battle.

Centuries before compasses and Google Maps existed, the Mexica described the world through four cardinal directions: north, east, south, and west. Each Rumbo carries its own energy, shaping life and maintaining balance within the universe. The cosmology of the Mexica becomes a tool for understanding the human inner world. ‘Rumbo’ is about the voice in your head that judges, and the courage it takes to confront it. Only when you let go of your own judgment, you can truly exist in freedom.

The greatest battle a person fights is the battle with themselves.
