De Stokers

Banjo, double bass, accordion, singing saw, brass, and voices, spread across seven men. De Stokers play music that mixes different music genres: polka, oom-pah, ska, Dutch smartlap, bluegrass, Balkan, and country. Not as a selection of the best of each, but as something that has passed through all those influences and emerged on the other side as ‘manically melancholic circus punk’.

De Stokers can play softly, like a song that asks for silence, and loud enough to set a festival tent in motion. Their ability to do both has taken them to a wide range of stages, from tight street corners to large concert halls. In a loving way, De Stokers pour anarchism and a wave of energy over their audience.

On their third album ‘Ondanks Alles’ (2022), recorded during the pandemic years, they introduced new sounds: violin, a big band in the background, and a barrel organ arrangement from Amsterdam’s Jordaan district. More instruments, more layers, and yet it never sounds overloaded.
