'TRANS-' is a theatrical DJ set about how everyone is always in transition. In 30 minutes, Just van Bommel and Emma van den Elshout build a dance party with live-mixed music, sharp lyrics and dry humour. A performance that constantly reinvents itself.

'TRANS-' celebrates change with a hyperpop anthem about not wanting to discuss gender all over again at every family gathering, an extremely auto-tuned ballad about how a skirt is really just a pair of trousers with one hole instead of two, and a track about why there are always men standing against walls at parties. They sample Paris Hilton and James Baldwin, but also Judith Butler, Jinx Monsoon, Audre Lorde and Lady Gaga.

'TRANS-' gives no answers. Just and Emma leave everything open, cheerfully contradict themselves and reshape the performance along with the day, the night and the audience in the room.

The show will premiere on Thursday 6 August at 8.45 pm as part of Boulevard.

About the artist

Emma van den Elshout (she/her) and Just van Bommel (he/she/they) graduated from the Theatre Academy Maastricht in 2022. Their first show together, 'Het Showtje', was selected for Het Debuut at VIA RUDOLPHI. This was followed by 'Het Spektakeltje' (Frascati Producties) and 'Het Circusje', which was also shown at Boulevard in 2024. Together they have a feeling for the everyday things that, on closer inspection, was never quite as self-evident as it seemed. Since 2025 they have been affiliated with VIA ZUID.
