Mama'ku

The evening opens with excerpts from a documentary by Sven Peetoom. He followed Cheroney and her mother on a journey to Indonesia and the Moluccan Islands, tracing the footsteps of the past. In ancestral rituals and deeply rooted stories, Cheroney discovers not only her mother’s history but pieces of herself. Memories once hidden begin to move again.

After the film, the performance continues with a dance duet between Cheroney Pelupessy and Ubit Iskandar. In an intense interplay of contemporary dance and traditional movement language, they give form to the unseen: the distance and closeness between generations, the search for identity and belonging.

'Mama’ku' is an ode to what is spoken – and what remains unsaid. A personal performance that lets you feel just how deeply the past lives on within us.
