The rainforest is magical. It is full of medicinal plants and whispering trees. Somewhere in Brazil it has been heard that indigenous peoples have encountered a mythical and mysterious creature; the Curupira. What does this creature look like? Does it have an eye or not, red or no hair, maybe blue teeth, is it big or small? One thing is certain; their feet are backwards and the creature is fond of mischief.

In Kinderen van het Verdwenen Woud we meet brother and sister Yara and Barnabe in a picturesque, hidden place in the rainforest. The children are lost in the woods. A magically beautiful forest, but also the only thing left of the rainforest. Surrounded by the city. Or… the Curupira does not let hi be surrounded.

Yara and Barnabe are fascinated by stories of mysterious creatures that once lived in that forest, such as the dangerous jaguar, the curious anteater, the hilarious blue macaw and the fireflies that illuminate the dark forest at night.

Youth theatre company Duda Paiva Company brings the world that children know from cartoons and video games to life. In Kinderen van het Verdwenen Woud, the artist pays attention to current developments in the rainforest of his native Brazil.

The performance uses smoke.
