With surround sound and cinematic storytelling, you’re submerged in June’s world of
escapism, grief, Mariah Carey, and empty rooms. So many empty rooms. 'Junebug' shifts
reality just enough to show what’s moving behind the curtains—a world you can’t see, but
you can definitely feel.

Anna Verkouteren Jansen: “When I first encountered death as a child, I turned to fantasy to cope with the emptiness. Over time, escapism became second nature. In 'Junebug', we watch June disappear into television. Her new-age mom Barb calls TV psychic Magic Tina every week, and Tina—well, she mostly believes in transactions. I find it deeply moving how people create stories to make sense of life’s randomness.”

The performance premieres at Boulevard on Saturday 16 August at 04.00 p.m..

Anna Verkouteren Jansen is a director, theatre maker and writer. She graduated from the Toneelacademie Maastricht in 2017 and has been collaborating with Bloos since 2021. Since 2023, she s part of PLAN, the talent development network in Brabant. Her work explores the power of our imagination. In 2023, she appeared at Boulevard with the remarkable solo audio experience 'Radio Sueño'.
