In 2024, Misiconi appeared at Boulevard with 'Falling', a dance performance about what control is and what happens when you let it go. This year, the theatre company returns with the closing piece of the trilogy about everything that keeps moving around us. In the dance performance 'Interval', choreographer Joop Oonk explores time. Not as a straight line, but as something that lives, shifts and changes as you watch.

We rarely take a moment to pause. We are always somewhere in between. 'Interval' is about the in-between: the space between what was and what is to come. Between holding on and letting go. Between who you were yesterday and who you will be tomorrow. We live in it constantly, even when we do not realise it. The performance does not ask you to understand that in-between space, but to feel it. Through dance, sound and ice.

You step into a dark auditorium. For a moment you see nothing. Then your eyes adjust, your ears sharpen, you become aware of your own breathing. Dancers emerge. Their movement influences the space, and the space and the objects within it move in response.

'Interval' invites you to look differently, to feel differently. Not to understand time, but to experience it. Step in. Slow down. Feel the space in between.

This show will premiere on Friday 14 August during Boulevard.

Make sure to visite 'Tussenstation'. It is a sensory installation that aligns with the theme of Misiconi’s performance 'Interval'. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the festival, emerges a temporary space to slow down. Through sound, voices and imagination, the installation invites visitors to wander, find stillness and experience ‘the in-between’.

Good to know

  • Misiconi works with sensory zones. You choose how close you want to get. On the stage, you feel the cold of the ice on your skin. In the auditorium, you are welcome to touch it. Further back, you can watch quietly and the sensory input stays minimal. No spot is better than another. Whatever fits, fits.
