Anansi de Spin - Sterker dan Olifant is a wonderful, musical and imaginative puppet theatre performance about the clever and mischievous spider from the same titled picture book by Iven Cudogham and Moldybyrd Studio. This performance is cancelled due to illness of one of the performers.

Location Zuiderpark/Populierencirkel
Running time 40 min.
Genre Theatre, musical theatre

Anansi has seen the tastiest bananas ever hanging in a tree. He climbs all the way up and then... they are snatched right from under his nose by the strong, big Elephant. Unable to resist, Anansi challenges her to a game of tug-of-war. The winner gets delicious fruit. Elephant does not say no to that, after all, she is the strongest in the forest. But of course, Anansi has already thought about another clever plan to fool everyone.

The beautiful ever-changing scenery and the sparkling music by percussionist and composer Vernon Chatlein draw you into the story.

Anansi is the main character in many West African, Surinamese and Caribbean stories. The stories originated in West Africa, among the Akan, where anansi is the word for spider. Anansi was originally a Maker who could travel between heaven and earth with a long, spun thread. Over the years, Anansi has taken on different roles and characters within the storytelling tradition. His story is told in the form of oral histories, books, television series or in theatre.
