Borboletas

Musician and storyteller Gery Mendes [1984] originally comes from Cape Verde, which was colonised by Portugal until 1975. As a conscript, his father fought for a Western regime that oppressed his people. But it also offered him the chance to leave poverty and island behind him. A justifiable excuse? In his search for answers, Gery enters a battlefield. Borboletas, the Portuguese word for butterflies, originated from conversations Gery had with his father. A beautiful solo about life's destiny and love, in which Cape Verdean music, such as morna, funana, batuku, rousing West African party music, and hip-hop reinforce the stories.
