This is a wordless, visually rich performance that sparks the imagination. Plankton invites the audience to think beyond human lifespans, and imagine alternative futures—on a micro scale.
What might happen when humans are no longer here? Through the cracks in the theatre walls, branches and plants begin to grow. The back wall collapses. Giant waves flood the space. The model theatre transforms into fantastical worlds we can barely imagine. Plankton takes the audience on a journey through future landscapes: floods, collapses, and the birth of new life.
About the artists
Plankton is the theatre collective of Sonja van Ojen and Hendrik Kegels, and part of PLAN Talentontwikkeling Brabant. They make visual theatre for all ages, blending object theatre, visual art, and mime. Their playful and imaginative style features humour, visual tricks, hand-made sets, miniatures, and the magic of everyday things. While fantasy writers dream up worlds filled with elves and trolls, Plankton tells epic stories starring power sockets, pebbles, volcanoes, lampposts, plastic bags, and fire extinguishers.
Om de hoek woont een struik [Boulevard 2022] won the BNG Bank Theatre Prize in 2020, was selected for the Dutch Theatre Festival in 2021, and was nominated for the “Grünschnabel” prize for young puppet theatre at the 2024 FIGURA festival. In 2024, Plankton also performed Het Donker at Boulevard.
