From the very first drumbeat, you will feel it: this will not be a quiet performance. Ebou Gaye Mada knows better than anyone how to make an audience move. With deep rhythms, a powerful baritone voice, and boundless energy, he takes you straight to his roots in The Gambia. Beside him stands singer Abou Mbye, born into a musical family known for their virtuoso vocals and command of the sabar. Together, they make music that transcends borders – between tradition and pop, between The Gambia and the Netherlands.
Ebou Gaye Mada descends from a family of griots – musical storytellers who bring tales to life through song and percussion. Since childhood, he has travelled the world with his sabar drum. He was part of the legendary music group Ifang Bondi, founded his own band Boka de Banjul, and became a key figure in the Dutch Afro-jazz scene.
Brother and sister Abou and Fafa Mbye grew up in a family where music is as natural as breathing. Their roots lie in Banjul, where the Mbye family has been known for generations for their powerful vocals and virtuoso sabar drumming. Together, Abou and Fafa bring a unique sound that moves effortlessly between fiery mbalax, acoustic folklore, and world music. They have collaborated with some of Senegambia’s biggest artists and share their music with a wide, international audience. On stage, they are vibrant and full of energy; off stage, you will often find them in the studio, dedicating themselves to keeping their musical heritage alive and letting it grow.
