Our digital worlds do not have to make us passive. Technology, combined with art, can also encourage us to move, to play, to feel. In daily life, we often use technology passively: we scroll, click, watch. Van der Born says: “I catch myself using my body just to get from A to B. Or from one goal to the next.” That changed when he discovered dance. He felt how powerful and creative movement can be.
'Dans les nuages' explores what he calls a “new media scenography”. In dance theatre, the set design is essential for dancers to express complex ideas and emotions. Using interactive digital tools, Van der Born investigates how a space can respond to us – and inspire new ways of moving.
This installation speaks a language everyone understands. Light. Motion. Rhythm. Without using words, the work evokes emotions that go beyond language. Van der Born believes our society would be better if we danced every day. This installation invites you to reconnect with your body – and to move it.
About the artist
Sebastian van der Born is a designer and digital artist who works on the border between the digital and physical world. He creates dreamlike environments where sound, light and space transform reality. His work explores his own experiences and those of others through interaction, video and atmosphere. His style can be playful, poetic, nostalgic or cold. He is inspired by other art forms too – like the unspoken communication between dancers, outdated film techniques, and layered soundscapes.
