A forest may seem still, but beneath the ground trees communicate constantly through their roots. They share nutrients, send signals and support one another. That image forms the foundation of 'Dancing with the Trees'. Choreographer Guilherme Miotto creates dance as a living landscape in which every movement sets something new in motion.

How do you create dance when nothing is fixed in advance? Choreographer Guilherme Miotto has been doing it for years with his method Instinctive Performance: dancers move not from choreographed steps, but from what their bodies tell them in the moment. In 'Dancing with the Trees', he continues that way of working.

On stage, a living landscape emerges in which three professional dancers and six children move together. Just as trees are connected through their roots, the performers respond to one another. Every movement sets something in motion; every action changes the whole. With ropes stretching across the space like root systems and branches, a network of lines and connections takes shape.

Drawing on Miotto's Instinctive Performance method, dance here grows not from fixed choreography, but from impulse, experience and bodily knowledge. The presence of children plays an essential role in this. They do not step in as executors, but as performers. Their direct and exploratory way of moving opens up the work and keeps it in constant motion.

'Dancing with the Trees' invites you to experience dance as an ecosystem. As a spectator, you are welcome to watch how a living landscape forms itself and remains in perpetual motion.

Good to know

  • All ages are welcome, but it is not a children's performance. If you think the performance might be interesting for your child, you are welcome.

About the artist

With dance company Corpo Máquina Society, choreographer Guilherme Miotto has been working from his own approach since 2017: Instinctive Performance. No fixed steps, no fixed form — just dance that arises from what bodies do, feel and know in the moment. At Boulevard, the company previously appeared with 'Bolistas' [2021], 'It takes a child to raise a village / football meets dance' [2022], 'It takes a child to raise a village / FREE' [2023] and 'Mondo Perfetto' [2024].
