Cosmic Cowboy

John Buijsman

What did you want to be earlier? When you were young? Or later, when you're dead? Our main character wanted to be a cowboy, but that’s no longer possible. He only has a week left to live. And so he fantasises about being a cowboy, complete with blood-curdling adventures, an all-encompassing love, and ultimately his masterly death as a poor, lonesome cowboy. In this two-man performance, John Buijsman and his king poodle Kees talk about the eternal cycle of life. They tell a wonderful tale full of outlaws, bounty hunters, cowgirls and talking animals.

This performance was created especially for Theaterfestival Boulevard 2020, but the road took an unexpected turn, not in smooth cowboy boots. About time for a Western rematch. It is the fifteenth time that Peer Wittenbols has written a theatre script especially for a solo performance by John. For John, being a cowboy is in his blood. He is a second-generation Rotterdam cowboy; his father was one of the youngest core members of the illustrious orchestra the Kilima Hawaiians at the time. But more importantly, once upon a time he was a seven-year-old boy with dreams. Cosmic Cowboy is for everyone with a later and an earlier dream, with dreams yet to be fulfilled or abandoned.
