Ida Osten & Sofiia Butiaga / Fontys Academy of the Arts | [AUT] [UKR] [HUN]

'BuryaK'—meaning ‘beet’ in Ukrainian—is a performance by Ida Osten in collaboration with Sofiia Butiaga. An intimate dance duet in which legacy, history and the human need for connection intertwine. In a delicate balance between autonomy and suppression, Osten and Butiaga ask what binds us together.

With tenderness and a sense of humour, BuryaK unravels the idea of interdependence. Though the two artists grew up far apart—Ukraine and Austria—they find themselves connected, whether they like it or not.
In 'BuryaK', a chain physically and symbolically links their bodies. Is it a bond of trust, or a form of restraint? As they navigate a complex web of forces and systems, they hold on to human relationships, shared life and commitment. Through the symbolic ‘power of the beet’, they explore how structures and beliefs shape the way we live, move and connect. The traditional dish borscht becomes a metaphor for resilience, care and survival.
This performance is one of six Fontys Finals — graduation works by students from Fontys Academy of the Arts. Fontys Finals is part of Future Feels, the student programme of Boulevard. Students from Avans Creative Innovation (Den Bosch and Breda) and Fontys Academy of the Arts (Tilburg) unite their youthful creative fire and artistic strength on a shared stage. A vibrant space where new talents in theatre, dance, cabaret, visual arts, and music can be discovered all day long. Future Feels is the place where students and the festival meet — a programme in which tomorrow’s makers create, present, and exchange together.
