In contrast to the often gloomy visions of our planet’s future, Beutler offers something else. In this eco-futuristic open-air performance, she sketches a world full of warmth, care and connection. The performers move and sound like a living network – branching, breathing, resonating. Together, they build a ritual in the museum’s garden. The sun plays a quiet role in this piece – a constant source of rhythm and energy.

With 'ARE WE EARTHLINGS', Beutler invites us to pause and to imagine: how can we find new balance in the world we live in?

On invitation by Het Noordbrabants Museum, Beutler adapted her latest dance opera 'NOW WE ARE EARTH / An Orchestra' into this open-air version, presented as part of the exhibition Human Nature, which focuses on the work of artist Magdalena Abakanowicz.

About Human Nature
Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930–2017) is considered one of the leading artists of the twentieth century and a pioneer of installation art. Her work arose in the wake of World War II and under Soviet oppression in Eastern Europe. Many of her themes – identity, collectivity, resilience – are once again relevant today.

During a visit to the Club of Rome in 1971, she first learned about climate change. This moment inspired her to explore the relationship between humankind and nature, and to advocate for balance between the two.

Human Nature is part of the joint exhibition Magdalena Abakanowicz - Groots, Groter, Grootst, on view until 24 August at Het Noordbrabants Museum, the North Brabant provincial government building, and the TextielMuseum in Tilburg.

About the artist
Nicole Beutler is a choreographer and theatre maker. Her work moves between dance, performance, visual art and social reflection. With her collective Nicole Beutler Projects, she creates performances that move audiences and open space for new ways of thinking. She says: “As an artist, I feel it is my responsibility to open up new spaces – in society and in the mind. Together, we can change the world.”
