What does it feel like to hang on every word of a storyteller, with no distraction from lights, costumes or set? Just you and the story? The storytellers of Mezrab invite you into a world of personal, mythical, musical, wild and intimate stories – from Brabant to the far corners of the world.

The beloved storytelling platform Mezrab, based in Amsterdam, shows you all sides of the art form: from magical children’s tales to epic Persian myths from the Book of Kings, from hilarious true stories to storytelling mixed with music, dance and theatre. Some stories are in Dutch, others in (accessible) English. Each day features a new line-up of stories and tellers.

About the artists
Mezrab is a cultural centre in Amsterdam offering a stage for storytelling, music and related art forms. When it was founded in 2004, Mezrab fitted inside a small teahouse in the city centre. Since then, it has grown into a venue with hundreds of events each year, attracting visitors from around the globe. Known for its intimate living room atmosphere, Mezrab gives every visitor a warm welcome. In 2020, it was awarded the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts, in recognition of its significant contribution to the city’s cultural life.

Good to know

  • The stories will be told in Dutch on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August. On Thursday 7, Friday 8 and Monday 11 August, the stories will be told in (accessible) English.
