In 'amparo', Helena Alemany Ortiz delves into the emotional layers of fear and comfort. Through dance and spoken word, she shows how vulnerability can also be a form of strength. 'Amparo' means protection, shelter in Spanish — and it’s also the name of Helena’s grandmother. This intimate, poetic performance explores what it means to feel, to trust, and to fall without breaking.

Helena says: "I have never considered myself a fearful person. Not long ago, my father told me: “Life begins on the other side of fear.” That’s when I realised there are many things I am actually afraid of. The word amparo holds the ideas of protection, comfort, support, refuge… and it is my grandmother’s name. This performance grew out of a creative process around vulnerability, insecurity and strength, around self-confidence. I think I would be afraid of feeling nothing at all."

This performance is one of the six Fontys Finals — graduation works by students from Fontys Academy of the Arts. Fontys Finals is part of Future Feels, the student programme of Boulevard. Students from Avans Creative Innovation (Den Bosch and Breda) and Fontys Academy of the Arts (Tilburg) unite their youthful creative fire and artistic strength on a shared stage. A vibrant space where new talents in theatre, dance, cabaret, visual arts, and music can be discovered all day long. Future Feels is the place where students and the festival meet — a programme in which tomorrow’s makers create, present, and exchange together.
