A parade of images at Theater aan de Parade

Photographer Vera Claessen exhibits the photo series “Hey You”, which can be seen during the festival in Bistro B at the foyer of Theater aan de Parade.

The series tells about people and a square where all kinds of things are happening. The square, De Parade, serves as the canvas and the photographer, hidden high up in St Jans cathedral, captures the people on the square. Individuals who feel uninhibited and are present in the square in all kinds of compositions: as loners, duos and groups, as in a mini society.

"I mostly saw people in all kinds of relationship forms. Because I was so fascinated by what was happening in the square, I started to explore this in more detail in subsequent sessions. What I saw while photographing I could only capture; I had no influence on it. I did tend to make my presence known: “Hey You” (Pink Floyd) went through my head," Vera Claessen said.

The result of days of photographing from the St. Jan is a series of 16 images that can be seen in Bistro B, in the foyer of Theatre on the Parade, until the end of the boulevard, 17 August.

A poem about HEY YOU

HEY YOU...

It's winter, it's cold
I look down
and see people who do find their way

Nobody sees me
everybody does what he does
nobody knows about me

People need each other
to carry and connect
from near or far
your heart is a home

People move alone, together and in groups
visible is an invisible network
Self-sufficient, until something happens
then they see it too…
