LAIKA & Circo
Ripopolo - Cucinema
three courses in 3D
Kitchen and chaos are like cats and dogs. In Cucinema,
cooks and actors are provoking the usual discipline and order of
the professional kitchen. Sophisticated cooking techniques are
brushed aside and give way to bizarre, but amusing ways of
preparing food. In an unadulterated cabaret atmosphere with live
piano music, the most surprising dishes are served in style and à
table.

NTGent/Marijke
Pinoy - GINDS, TUSSEN DE NETELS [YONDER, AMONG THE
NETTLES] premiere
Urtica: global stinging nettle capital. Here, in this pokey
little Belgian village, the families Delfosse and Muermans have
been fighting out a bloody feud for generations - to the death.
Why? Envy. About land. About nettle cultivation. About prices.
"Here, the value of a life corresponds to the price of a square
meter." Then Cédric Delfosse gets married. To Emelyne, a young
woman who - goddammit - once had a relationship with Léon Muermans.
And then, right after the wedding ceremony, she runs away from her
brand new husband. Straight back to her old lover. The young men
make mincemeat of one another. And Urtica trembles.

Polymorf/zZz - BAGAGE
[BAGGAGE] premiere
In Bagage, an older couple with a gambling
addiction flit restlessly in their caravan from one twilight casino
to the next. When his wife suddenly dies, her husband is unable to
say goodbye to her, and he tries to carry on, with her decomposing
body, as though nothing has happened. The audience follows the
elderly couple on their journey. We roam aimlessly around a waste
disposal site where the couple's caravan has crashed against a
lamppost, before finally ending up in a surreal illegal gambling
paradise populated by aged gambling addicts. During the
performance, the actors are in amongst the audience. This is how we
meet the aging gamblers and their tragicomic stories: stories that
have found a second home in the casino. Bagage is about
accepting loss, and reveals the poetry of disappearance in the
margins of life.

OMSK/Lotte
van den Berg - Les Spectateurs
Europe staggers, Asia is on the move, America is
reconsidering and Africa is slowly easing itself away from its many
centuries of dependence. Where does the Netherlands stand between
these globally shifting forces? What do we do with the realisation
that our prosperity will once come to an end? How do we see
ourselves in a global perspective and how do we let ourselves be
influenced by it? The path that OMSK will go during the next years
will focus on these questions. From the need to relate directly
with a shifting world, in response to conservation and openness of
our own culture, we will be leaving.

De zon schijnt niet in uw TV/Anna van der Kruis - PEE
Pee is about a man who pollutes in a caravan. Once a year,
his family comes to visit and forces his own birthday party on him.
Complete with a barbecue. Because 'if we don't do it, you won't
even celebrate your own birthday.' The relationships are made clear
through cringingly painful humour. His dear sister brings the
barbecue, his brother the beer, his cousin brings the sauces, his
other brother is keeping them waiting for the meat. The middle of
the day watches, long-sufferingly, how others dictate how he should
spend his birthday.

Matzer Theatre
productions - Kracht [strength]
On-site in 's Hertogenbosch, MATZER is performing the show
Kracht, inspired on the film scenario with the same name
by writer Frouke Fokkema. Fokkema based her scenario on own
experiences during her sojourn in the country; it struck her that
on the other side of beauty there was so much toughness and
cruelty, so much misery and unhappiness.
These are grave themes, but the humour and disorder that also
characterise Frouke Fokkema's work, render it a certain
lightness.

Het leven, de dood en liefde in de tussentijd [Life, death and love
in the meantime]
The Groot Ziekengasthuis [GZG, the Big Hospital] is no
more. Since 1974, this concrete bastion on Zuid-Willemsvaart was
the first and last resting place of many inhabitants of Den Bosch,
as well as offering first and emergency aid, last rites, healing
and help in difficult times. The memories remain - the empty
corridors of the stripped hospital are still populated by stories:
about losing and finding; about special meetings; boundless
happiness, painful farewells, being born and dying. Het leven,
de dood en liefde in de tussentijd is an audio/visual theatre
production that takes us one last time through the wards of the
GZG, where patients were still living, dying and loving until just

- Reis van een Rus [A Russian's journey]
Having received his certificate, a young Russian leaves
the Moscow Music Academy. A shiny future beckons, but his native
Moldavia is in a grisly turmoil. When he returns, he gives it all
up. That's how the Russian gets into the adventure: he starts his
journey. In Europe, he embraces freedom and unprecedented
opportunities. He stares his eyes out. He makes a living as a
street musician. He and his bayan are inseparable, it is his loyal
friend. The Russian's talent doesn't go unnoticed. He steadily
climbs the ladder of success. What is it that he left behind?
The Russian looks back one more time and tells an unbelievable and
true story. Slowly a picture develops of a different culture, a
life under unusual circumstances. The question crops up: are we
fate's plaything or can we still take our lives in our own
hands?

- MOUCHETTE
Theater Artemis is celebrating its twentieth anniversary. To mark
the occasion, artistic director Floor Huygen is reviving
Mouchette, the celebrated play by Flemish writer Arne
Sierens. In Mouchette, he sketches a scintillating world,
populated not by gods, but by wretches. Where there are no
tragedies, but melodramas. This world is brought into the theatre
using an impressive backdrop and a lively soundtrack: "The sound of
trains, clanking fuse-boxes and caterwauling. This has a strong,
disconcerting effect: you can't neutralise what you can't see."

LisenImke - IN
HET DIEPE [IN THE DEPTHS] premiere
The woman is hiding in the swimming pool. The man is on the side of
the pool, with a whistle. They want to dive in, but they don't know
how. They are afraid of the height - and the depth. They want to be
able save themselves, but they don't know how. And most of all,
they want a diploma. For every step in their lives. So they are
sure they are able to do everything, before they actually do
it.
In het Diepe (7+) is a production about the desire for
solid ground beneath your feet, while at the same time refusing to
go with the flow. For everyone who is sometimes afraid of drowning
in the choices we face in life, but who above all doesn't want to
just watch from the sidelines.

Roos van Geffen - VANGST, een kabinet van angsten

During the past year, Roos van Geffen has started an impressive
collection of fears and desires, obtained from random passers-by on
the street. Sitting at a little table with a typewriter, she had
exceptional and often extremely frank meetings. The collection
forms the starting point for Roos van Geffen's latest piece of
experience theatre. In Vangst, she wonders whether it is
better to embrace what you are afraid of, as it is better to act on
the basis of desire than out of fear.

Theatre group TUIG -
Hellend vlak [slippery slope]
TUIG are constructing a life-sized, two-sided pair of
bellows, serving as the stage floor. Very steep, rising high.
Dropping slowly. Then back up on the other side. Large and small
organ pipes form a circle around the bellows. The bellows are
blowing air, much air. Air blows organ pipes, air drives tools, air
writes, makes music and air creates things. All this around the
theme of dualism: when one thing is experienced, it already
encompasses its opposite.

Het
NUT - CARDENIO
In May 1613, the King´s Men gave the debut performance of The
History of Cardenio - the swansong of the greatest writer
of all times, William Shakespeare. But this final, crowning work is
lost. And from that moment on, it becomes the holy grail of every
Shakespeare lover. For centuries, experts and treasure-hunters have
been searching high and low, all over the world, for the lost
manuscript.
Who is Cardenio? What is his story, and why was it this
story that was lost? Was there something in this play that could
not stand the light of day? Who made Shakespeare's
Cardenio disappear? Het NUT has joined the hunt, and came
across hidden codes, secret references and connections never before
made.

Toneelgroep
Cargo - CONTOUREN [CONTOURS] premiere
Three residents have become entangled in a house meeting. The first
has a very short fuse, the second refuses to go outside and the
third has taken on an incomprehensible spokesperson, owing to her
emotional state. Ingredients enough to derail a reasonable
discussion into an explosive evening of theatrical fireworks. A
minor human drama unfolds when it turns out that a black cat has
been shitting in the back garden.
In Contouren, Marcel Osterop gives his take on the theme
of integration. The result is a comedy about the tolerance,
pettiness and fear people have for one another. Osterop has proven
in previous works that he has the talent to transform seemingly
everyday situations into razor-sharp dialogues, with a great sense
of humour.

Kuijpers - PARADISE INC. premiere
Are you too predestined for a higher purpose, and longing for a
heavenly existence? If so, Paradise Inc are here to help
you. We all get that empty feeling now and again, that sense of no
longer knowing why we are doing what we do. A lack of awareness and
mindfulness. And we all want to be happy. Some people Google
Buddhist temples, others stare, mesmerised, at their tropical
screensavers. But at the end of the day - lost souls that we are -
we all opt en masse for the discount, all-inclusive option.
The experience theatre production Paradise Inc not only
offers insight into the corporation that runs paradise, it also
acts as an airport that can take you there. An airport with
temptations, and also very strict rules: you first have to get
through customs. At the end of the day, whether the production
Paradise Inc takes you to paradise is in your own

thing that keeps him going through the everyday madness is his love

Performance on the Festival Square
|
 |
Het Zuidelijk
Toneel - ANALEMMA
A production that takes place on a square, unobtrusively
between the people who happen to be there. The spectator watches
the performance from a distance, listening to the actors on a small
radio with headphones. S/he knows that a performance is a
performance is being given, although the passers-by won't realise
this. The public space and the inconspicuous technology make for a
unique theatrical experience. A narrator leads the spectator into a
story about a young man in the middle of the square. He is sitting,
reading a book, but for some unknown reason he is repeatedly
approached by people who want to go for a drink with him. But he
can't accept all the invitations at the same time... All the people
in the performance are kind and attractive - almost improbably so.
Or could there be a hidden agenda behind the attractive
facade?
