The European Festival Association announced which 26 festivals - from 715 candidates - received an EFFE Laureate. The two Dutch nominees are Festival Early Music Utrecht and Theater Festival Boulevard 's-Hertogenbosch.
The jury stated that it has chosen "remarkable festivals devoted to the arts, their communities, the public and Europe". As a laureate, the festivals are now able to win the EFFE award. This will be presented on the 18th of September in the European heart of Brussels in the presence of European ministers of culture. Other nominated festivals include Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland [GBR], Gender Bender Festival in Bologna [ITA] and Tbilisi International Festival [GEO].
Earlier, Theater Festival Boulevard received international European recognition with the EFFE label. Out of the 715 festivals in Europe with this label, 26 nominees have now been nominated as EFFE Laureate.
The EFFE label stands for the Europe Festival - Festival for Europe platform, an initiative of the European Festival Association (EFA). Festivals selected for this label have high artistic quality and local, national and international performance. The EFFE awards are awarded annually to the selected festivals. In 2015, Noorderzon Groningen received an EFFE award.
