Colours shifting between red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. RAINBOW is a big magical diorama that hypnotises you with its slow-motion and merging transitions. Benjamin Verdonck stands next to the installation and manually carries out a score by pulling at strings that make the panels of the diorama slide, stand still or shift. He has an entire collection of these magical boxes in all sizes, from a small match box to nearly the size of an actual rainbow. Together with Lucas Van Haesbroeck, light artist and stage designer with a huge fascination for shadow, Benjamin developed this composition in which blurred light shadows slide in and out of each other. RAINBOW is like a slow-moving refracted light poem.

This performance was made possible thanks to a contribution from Jan and Will van Hoof Foundation.

Location PA Podium Azijnfabriek
Running time 25 min.

'This is pure enjoyment, letting yourself go with the blurred colors and lights. Exciting, captivating, so soothing. Enchantingly beautiful, to get completely detached from the world.'

Tuur Devens - Theaterkrant

Benjamin Verdonck has been appearing at Boulevard for years. He has exhibited his mastery with one more thing, Gilles leert lezen (Gilles learns to read), Waldeinsamkeit and last year with his World Tour [through Den Bosch]. He chose small and manoeuvrable works long before Covid-19 forced theatre directors to find new ways of communicating with the public. RAINBOW is the latest and one of the largest speechless diorama installations. Intimate, moving and hypnotising. Something to get lost in.
